Hurlburt 6th SOS Squadron Operations Facility
Hurlburt AFB, Florida
The approximately 23,000 square Design Build 6th SOS Squadron Operations Facility located at Hurlburt Field Florida project was developed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working with Speegle Construction of Niceville Florida. The project design and construction budget was approximately $5,000,000.00. The design scope included a 2 day design Charrette including program development. Due to increasing mission requirements the design occupant load was almost tripled from the original program to 240 personnel. The site incorporates existing parking that is modified to meet force protection standoff requirements as well as standoff requirements from the flight line. The exterior design incorporates Base standards relative to the architectural style including painted split face block exterior walls with standing seam metal roof. The facility design incorporates design elements to resist loads and impacts as appropriate for hurricane prone region and force protection requirements. Late in the development of the project it was determined the facility should incorporate plans for future growth and functions. The facility was designed to allow future additions and to accommodate a future change in function of the storage areas to an auditorium. Secret level COM and open storage areas are included in the facility and are designed to meet the requirements of DCID 6/9. Various areas are designed with secure and STC rated assemblies.
